. At that
time I rewrote the README file (the standard part of the anonymous FTP
setup) into HTML. One can still find the references to that URL in old
documents and USENET postings. In the Spring of 1995, the system
administrator installed the HTTP server and configured it to make the
contents of the anonymous FTP site also available on the web. When
exactly that happened is hard to tell now; it looks like I have first
mentioned the web URL http://replicant.csci.unt.edu/~oleg/ftp/
in an
e-mail sent on May 19, 1995. The "ftp" part of the URL, the artifact
of that first server configuration, has stuck. The URL was
mentioned in several messages posted on comp.lang.c++ newsgroup in
June 1995. ChangeLog was added at the end of that year.
In 1996, after several site migrations, the redirector http://pobox.com/~oleg/ftp
was set up.
Thus this collection of code and articles, as a web site, has been
around for 20 years.continues in a separate document, ChangeLog-18.html
